I highly recommend this method, or if it is not available to you, try pretending the optional boss does not exist at all. Personally, I got someone else to do it, placing the control pad in the hands of a woman ten years younger who thinks nothing of lightning combos and split second dodges. If the messages are anything to go by, this boss has broken many a player. Since this is a short chapter, we've also included a guide to beating the optional boss, Darkeater Midir, but be warned, dear cheeseburger assassins: this is a very, very tough boss, designed for the hardiest of players, and not glass-jawed little sneaksters like us. Along the way we'll unlock an optional boss, open the shortcut gate right back to the Ringed Inner Wall, find the path to the optional boss and collect some sweet loot. This is a pretty eventful section, even if geographically it is short. You can perform a leap attack that will turn into a plunging attack onto him, then take care of him. From there, get close to the edge opposite the wall you just dropped down, and you should see another Ringed Knight. Do that plunging attack, then take them out (the second one won't aggro unless you get in his field of view). From there, if you look down, you should see two Ringed Knights below you, one of them close enough to the wall to get a plunging attack on. Then kill the two Ringed Knights there (and the giant, if you want), then go down the stairs near the giant and down the ladder. Starting from Ringed City Streets, enter the area requiring you to "show your humanity". I think I have a farming route for these guys that works pretty well. The spear variant's shield roar can knock players back, so be careful when fighting them near cliffs.When the straight sword variant holds its blade upwards and lights it, it will either do a Soul of Cinder-esque 5-hit combo or a lunging thrust from long range.(Efficient runs take about 2 minutes, netting a considerable number of souls in addition to any items they happen to drop.) ![]() Though they are not the safest source by far, wearing a full set of item discovery/soul farming gear makes the knights a great source not only of Filianore's Spear Ornaments but also Titanite Chunks, Titanite Scales, Embers, and basic Souls. Past the left edge of the building is the fourth and last knight, who can be dispatched more easily by starting the fight with a plunging attack. With careful movement, or a few well-aimed projectiles, they can each be lured out to fight one-on-one. Now move out towards the nearby crumbling building where three knights stand guard. Run through the gated shortcut and jump down off the left side to the swamp below, taking care not to aggro the nearby Judicator. The easiest location to do this is near the Ringed City Streets bonfire.
